Five one-year scholarships in social research methods and statistics
The University of Manchester is offering 5 one-year scholarships
consisting of a fee waiver and a maintenance payment of £8,300 for post-
graduate study in inter-disciplinary topics using large-scale datasets.
Candidates must also be applicants to ESRC for 1+3 funding and, if
unsuccessful, undertake to apply again for 3-year funding.
Candidates will be based in the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and
Survey Research where they will take the ESRC recognised MSc in Social
Research Methods and Statistics. They may be jointly supervised with
any other department in the University. In return for the award
candidates are asked to offer up to 180 hours a year teaching support.
Candidates are free to nominate topics of interest. However, they are
advised to visit the web sites of CCSR and other Faculty departments to
identify research interests.
Examples of research topics are:
· Using the 1991 and 2001 Census to analyse the changing
geography of neighbourhoods
· Analysing voting behaviour using the British Household Panel
Survey
· Ethnic differences in employment and unemployment
· Locality and criminal behaviour using the British Crime Survey
· Demographic and family change over the last 25 years
