Medical Research Council Biostatistics Unit
PHD STUDENTSHIPS
The MRC Biostatistics Unit in Cambridge has 3 MRC-funded PhD studentships
starting in October 2002 for a period of 3 years. The Unit has a reputation for
high quality research into statistical methods with applications in medical and
biological sciences. Successful candidates will be registered with Cambridge
University and degrees will be awarded by the University.
Applicants should have a good first degree in mathematics or statistics. An MSc
or Diploma in a relevant discipline is ideal.
The following topics are proposed:
Statistical methodology for structural genomic data (Wally Gilks)
The impact of clustering by health professional in randomised trials (Simon
Thompson)
The analysis of health economic data in evaluating medical treatments (Simon
Thompson)
Non-compliance in clinical trials (Ian White)
Modelling Hepatitis C progression (Sheila Bird)
Statistical genetics: Use of covariates in model-free linkage analysis (Peter
Holmans)
