JOB: PHD STUDENTSHIP IN APPLIED STATISTICS
The department Methodology and Statistics of the University of Maastricht,
The Netherlands, offers a research studentship leading to a PhD. The
department is a dynamic group embedded within a university that is
internationally oriented and has an innovative research programme. The
department gives courses in Methodology and Statistics to students in
Health Sciences, Medicine, and Psychology. It's research focusses on issues
in Psychometrics and Biometrics.
At the moment we offer a position for a PhD studentship.
THE RESEARCH PROJECT
In many studies in Health Sciences, Psychology and Medicine,
the data are obtained through a nested design, such as pupils
nested within classes, nested with schools, or multiple
measurements nested within persons. Mixed-effects regression
analysis is increasingly being used by researchers for
analyzing data obtained in such designs. Both design and
analysis issues related to this technique are researched.
The PhD project especially addresses the following two
questions:
(1) What is an optimal design and an adequate sample size for
estimating and testing the effects of an intervention ?
(2) Which estimators and test procedures for the random effects is to be
preferred ?
We expect the canditate to write a PhD- thesis.
