Royal Statistical Society Ordinary Meeting
'How not to measure the efficience of the public services
(and how one might)'
by
Mervyn Stone (University College, London)
M.J.Farrell's 1957 Series A paper is reformulated in the single-input/
multiple-output case, prior to critical evaluation of the Spottiswoode
Report's recent recommendation that its developments as Data
Envelopment Analysis and Stochastic Frontier Analysis be taken
seriously for police force efficiency assessment. An alternative approach
using value judgements is mooted.

Wednesday 16 January, with tea at 4.30pm. The
meeting takes place at the Royal Statistical Society, 12
Errol Street, London EC1 (nearest underground stations
