Bayesian networks for paternity testing via DNA
Robert Cowell (City University)
Abstract:
In the past couple of years, through work of Dawid and coworkers, it has
become possible to formulate complex problems of identity and paternity
using dna samples as probability calculations using probabilistic expert
systems (PES). I shall discuss these developments as they relate to a
prototype software package I have developed, called FINEX, than enables
these calculations to be performed quickly and accurately, overcoming
some of the limitations of implementing such problems using current
standard PES software.
