Weston Park Hospital
TRENT CANCER REGISTRY
So ... you don't want to be a banker, actuary or accountant ... but want to
use your statistics training to make a difference in the real world?
... then become a Medical Statistician with the Trent Cancer
Registry, based in Sheffield.
We are seeking to recruit:
* a final year undergraduate or newly qualified graduate in
stats/maths & stats
* or an MSc student in medical stats/stats
to help us turn data collected by the Registry into meaningful statistical
analyses by translating clinical data and queries into statistical questions
to provide results to non-statisticians and help them understand the
findings.
Examples of what we do:
* help clinicians and policy-makers identify areas of cancer services
which could be improved;
* examine whether there are differences in survival from cancer
depending whether you live in a deprived or affluent area;
* look at whether patients are being given the treatments recommended
in guidelines and whether different treatments affect the survival chances
of patients
There will be opportunities for you to present your findings at relevant
scientific meetings both to clinicians and to other statisticians working in
the cancer field and to write up your work for publication in
statistical/clinical peer-reviewed journals.
The post is permanent, with funding available from 1 August 2002 (an earlier
start date may be possible). The starting salary will be in the range
£15,902 - £20,192 p.a.
