RESEARCH FELLOW - STATISTICS : HIV / AIDS EPIDEMIOLOGY
Applications are invited for this post in the MRC Health Services
Collaboration (HSRC), Department of Social Medicine, University of
Bristol. The Department is a leading centre for epidemiology and
health services research in the UK, and was one of only three to be
awarded the highest 5* grade in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise.
The successful applicant will join a group developing new approaches to
statistical evidence synthesis and medical decision making. This
MRC-funded project is a collaboration between the MRC HSRC at Bristol,
the Public Health Laboratory Service, and the MRC Biostatistics Unit in
Cambridge. The objective is to develop a model of the HIV epidemic in
the UK based on statistical synthesis of routinely collected data on
prevalence, diagnosis, and risk behaviour. This will be used to project
the future course of the epidemic and its economic impact, and for
formal analysis of policy options and research prioritisation.
This is a 3-year appointment at Research Fellow level (MRC band 4,
salary range £26,491 - £30,488). Starting salary will depend on
qualifications and experience. The post is available immediately.
Applicants should have postgraduate qualifications in statistics or
mathematics. Experience or knowledge of any of the following would be
an advantage: statistical modelling of epidemiological data; HIV and
sexually transmitted infections, Bayesian methods and theory,
meta-analysis, systematic review, economic evaluation, decision
analysis, S-Plus programming.
