Several statistics textbooks have a quotation, ostensibly from a novel
K. A. C. Manderville: The undoing of Lamia Gurdleneck.
But something is clearly wrong here; either the title is wrong or perhaps
the author should be K. A. C. Manderguille.
The quote apparently first appeared in Kendall and Stuart. Did they
get it wrong, and if so why has it not been corrected yet?
Keith
PS Of course, no such novel exists.
