Statistician in Genetic Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Disease
An appointment is to be made for a statistical research fellow to
apply and develop statistical methods in the genetic epidemiology of
complex disease, particularly cardiovascular disease. The appointee
would be expected to contribute to a number of large-scale current
research programmes. Depending on level of appointment the person
appointed may also be expected to develop his/her own research
programme in cardiovascular disease. The successful applicant will
join an active research group within the BHF Heart Research Centre
and would be based in the Cancer Research UK Genetic Epidemiology
Division at St James's University Hospital, Leeds. The position,
is offered on Research Grade II to III depending on
experience £25,451 to £39,958 p.a. Appointment at a lower level of a
less experienced individual would be considered for a particularly
outstanding applicant;
is initially offered for three to five years, but may lead to
a permanent academic appointment;
will exclude teaching and administrative duties in the early stages;
will be supported by a good IT structure;
will be based within an established group of genetic
epidemiologists and statisticians (5* rating in 2002 Research
Assessment Exercise)
Appointees will have a PhD in statistical genetics or statistical
epidemiology, an excellent record of research achievement (not
necessarily in the area of cardiovascular disease) and will be
expected to make a significant contribution to the research profile
of the University. Full support for career development will be
