Dear Colleagues/Members:
I am currently writing a paper on this subject. The focus is the fallacy of
sample size and random sampling. I have come to realize that "random
sampling" and "power" are primarily philosophical issues and do not deserve
the practical importance attributed to them by those who simply accept what
history has provided and keep repeating same either because of loyalty or
cognitive laziness. Especially with clinical trials, when the outcome of
interest has a literal biological basis (related to anatomy and physiology)
the sample size is not as critical as we have been led to believe. We really
need to start applying the common sense model, and some will miss the
sophistication, however, so be it, the truth is what we need. This is a big
ethical issue.
Thanks,
