* Optimal design *
******************
Anyone using design of experiments will sooner or later encounter so-called optimal design. Perhaps custom design would be a better name, as one might wonder: Aren't classical designs optimal? Well, yes, they are, by most standards. It is just that they cannot handle all conceivable problems. Where they fail, optimal design comes in.
Users of classical designs like factorials and central composites may not be aware of the limitations or the alternatives. This workshop provides them with an overview by experts in the field as well as applications.
For those well-aware of optimal design there is news from the forefront of design science, there are some intricate applications and for dessert, there is the presentation of a practical problem that has yet to be solved, which is sure to lead to a lively debate that can take us to a follow-up session where solutions can be presented.

* B-ENBIS *
************
ENBIS, the European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics, was founded two years ago with the aim to bring together people from practice, not just formally trained statisticians, but anyone using statistical methods. Its main goal is to exchange knowledge and ideas. ENBIS is web-based, (http://www.ibisuva.nl/ENBIS), membership is free.
A group of enthusiastic Belgian members felt that this could work well also on a smaller, national, scale. They started B-ENBIS, a local initiative under the ENBIS umbrella, with the goal to meet and discuss applications, problems and new techniques, to improve networking and facilitate co-operation.
If you like to be informed about B-ENBIS activities, please send an e-mail to [log in to unmask] or visit our website http://www.stat.ucl.ac.be/B-ENBIS/.
