Dear Allstaters
I have just been asked to find out whether there's a familial link
between the occurrence of oesophageal cancer and any other of the types of
cancer present in the families.
The data supplied is a 14 x16 table where the rows correspond to 14
families, the first column is the number of individuals in each family (
total 544) , the second column is the number of individuals with
oesophageal cancer ( total 30). The remaining columns are the number within
each family with other cancers, such as lung, liver. The total occurances
range from 1 individual for several of the cancers to 17 individuals (from
8 families) with one type of cancer. I am told 5 individuals had 2 cancers
which have been counted as two events.
Suggestions of how to provide a statistical solution to the question would
be appreciated?
Thanks
