I have been asked to forward the following to the list:
The Thames Valley Multi-centre research ethics committee (MREC) is
looking for a medical statistician to joint the committee. The Thames
Valley MREC is one of the two new MRECs currently being setup in the South.
Meetings will be held on either the third Tuesday or Wednesday of each month, between 10.00am and approx. 2.00pm, at 57-59 Bath Road, Reading. The service will be voluntary, but all expenses will be refunded. Appropriate training will be provided.
MREC's carry out the ethical review of research undertaken on NHS
patients in five or more centres. A committee comprises of up to 18
members drawn from the general public and from professions linked to
health and social sciences.
The committees meet monthly for between four and eight hours dependent
on the business. Members are expected to give adequate time for
preparation and personal development. No remuneration is paid but
expenses are covered.
Knowledge of the NHS and awareness of issues relating to health research
will be desirable. Membership of a Local Research Ethics Committee
(LREC) will be an advantage but is not essential.
