Bioinformatics programming post
======================
Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland (BioSS) (based in Dundee,
Scotland) are looking for a Bioinformatics Programmer for a period of
six months, starting 1st October 2002.
The successful candidate will join a BBSRC Bioinformatics initiative
funded project developing software to analyse DNA sequence data, and
will mainly work on providing user-friendly interfaces for biologists.
The post is an ideal opportunity to work on an interesting biological
project (detecting evidence of recombination in DNA multiple alignments)
which implements new statistical methods using a range of programming
languages. The post would suit a recent MSc Bioinformatics graduate or
an IT/computer scientist wishing to move into Bioinformatics.
Geneticists and Statisticians with significant programming experience
may also find the post of interest. The post is based at the Scottish
Crop Research Institute (SCRI) in Dundee and the successful candidate
will work with Dr. Frank Wright (BioSS Bioinformatics), Dr. David
Marshall (SCRI bioinformatics) and Dr Dirk Husmeier (BioSS
Bioinformatics).
The salary will be up to 20,000 GBP pa, depending on experience.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelors degree in biological or computer
sciences or statistics/mathematics. Programming skills in one or more of
the following programming language(s): C, Java, PERL/CGI. MATLAB
experience would also be useful.
Please apply as soon as possible with CV to Dr David Marshall (

Wright ( [log in to unmask] ) from 2nd September). Interviews will be
held in September with the successful applicant hopefully starting on
