Department of industrial economics and technology management at Norwegian
University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has two openings for Ph.D.
students within Industrial Management and Operations Research connected to
the project "POLCORRIDOR LOGCHAIN".

“POLCORRIDOR LOGCHAIN" is a large EC-supported research program involving
research institutions and industrial companies from ten European countries.
The project intends to develop and commercially validate a new, more
efficient and environmentally more-friendly freight transfer system between
the Northern and South Eastern Europe. Utilizing the free infrastructure
capacity in Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria, the project aims at
establishing an international shuttle train that shall link the Nordic
region with South Eastern Europe through sea-land bridging. The project is
managed by the Institute of Transport Economics (TŘI) in Oslo, which also
co-ordinates the POLCORRIDOR international consortium.

The POLCORRIDOR LOGCHAIN project offers research opportunities within the
following topics:

1. “Demand Structure for Inter-modal Freight Supply Solutions: A
Comparative Study of Demand Parameters behind Industrial Users’ Choices of
Inter-modal Freight Transit in Ten European Countries”.

2. “Development of Quality Monitoring & Quality Enforcement Systems
for Inter-modal Operators in POLCORRIDOR Freight Supply System. Empirical
Assessment of Co-ordination Tools for Minimizing Distortions in Delivery
Quality within a Supply Chain Cutting across Ten Countries”.

3. “Organisational Institutionalisation of Collaboration between the
Railway Companies in the Eastern Europe: Development of Joint Solutions for
Production of Common Train Services in Eastern Europe”.

4. “Optimisation of Bridging Operations between Sea-land Transport
Suppliers within the POLCORRIDOR Freight Supply System”.

The research group including the Ph.D. students will work in Norway and the
countries involved in the project. Good knowledge of written and spoken
English is necessary. The positions require a degree equivalent to M. Sc.
for example within industrial management for the first position or
mathematical programming, operations research or quantitative economics for
the other.

The position in industrial management is supervised by professor Olav Solem
(+47 73593501), [log in to unmask] and the one in operations research is
supervised by associate professor Marielle Christiansen (+47 73593602),
[log in to unmask] For more information contact the POLCORRIDOR coordinator
Johanna Ludvigsen at TŘI (+4722573866), [log in to unmask]

are financed by the project. The positions are for four years including one
year of work for the department and three years on the project, or for
three years without the first duty.

Applications including copies of publications or scientific work,
