I found the problem behind a mysterious matlab freeze-up that would occur
from time to time. (This is relevant only to UNIX.) The freeze-ups were so
severe that I couldn't kill the matlab window with its own close control; I
had to go to another shell and kill the process.
It turns out that it's because ctrl-Y is often set in UNIX systems to be
"delayed suspend." Unfortunately, that's a lot like ctrl-U, which is a
handy line-kill that works in both UNIX shell and the matlab command-line
mode.
On USENET, the suggestion was to reassign delayed suspend to something that
would never be typed, e.g. ctrl-_.
If anyone wants more details, email me and I will provide them.
