For those who might consider a PhD at UCL in CASA/Geography/Built
Environment/Planning
We have two awards for three years for UK students, both in the area of
visualising transport and building in innovative ways. Concerns about
sustainability and urban renewal has given rise to a new demand to
understand and predict pedestrian movement flows in our cities, as well as
to visualise what the impact of these effects might be on the 3D built
environment. These awards pay the fees of course and also provide a
maintenance stipend of some £10,300 per year, I think. They would also be
topped up by around £1500 per year extra by the sponsors of the awards who
we work with. There are also many opportunities to work with the sponsors
during the three years and receive appropriate remuneration. The two awards
in question are
An ESRC CASE award, in collaboration with Ordnance Survey
investigating 3-D representations of urban form. Full details >>

An ESRC CASE award, working with Intelligent Space, to develop
flow models of pedestrian movement. Full details >>

If you are sympathetic to technical work of the kind implied by these
proposals, interested in visualisation and multimedia, planning, mapping,
cities etc, then take a look at what we have available.
We have to decide who will take these awards by May 31st and if you are
interested, then please make an application as soon as possible because to
be eligible for these awards, we must admit you to UCL as a research
student before May 31st.
