Jon! I loved this poem. Real rich, nice brush of surrealism, great
little lists. Figure I'll offer up one of my letter poems (though
it's vastly inferior to your achievement).
Best,

DEAR DR. FARBER
Dear Dr. Farber,
You killed my dog Edward
two years ago, and I never
said thank you. I am sure
you were gentle, because
Edward has come to me
in dreams and had fond
things to say about you.
So I write to you in case
you are feeling bad. But
do not feel bad, because
it had to be done. Edward
was in pain. Let me tell
you also, that I saw a movie
the other day, and it was in
World War II and people
kept calling this guy
"Herr Doctor," and I thought
they were saying
"Hair Doctor," as if this
guy fixed people's sick hair,
but Velda at the convenience
store said there's no way,
and explained to me
that in Germany they
speak a language where
Herr means Mister. And
then it occurred to me that
if there was a guy named
Franz Suit, and he was a
doctor and lived in
Germany, he'd be called
Herr Suit, which takes
us full circle. Anyways,
Edward is resting in
dog heaven, with all his
little friends who
predeceased him, and
I thank you, Herr Doctor,
and I wish you well.
My regards to your
family at this holy time
of the year. Ben
