Thanks Jill - that's pretty comprehensive! What possessed you to do
such a thing? It reminded me of a few favourites (The Mirror, which
I had on video until we lent it to someone, happened to all our
Tarkovsky films - I have to mention my other favourite of his,
Stalker, which has a great scene in which an actor recites a poem by
Arseny Tarkovosky) and that wonderful Parajanov film The Colour of
Pomegranates... and so on...
One of my favourite films about writers is the Coen brothers' Barton
Fink. There's not a poet in it, but I can never get over the
brilliance of the scene where John Goodman is walking through the
burning hotel yelling "I'll show you the life of the mind!" Poetic,
anyway.
