If it wasnt for Fred Beake dropping in once a week for a poetry
chat and William Oxley wanting a gossipy letter to accompany
the WEb Statistics for my site and my membership of this mailing
list I would have next to nothing to do with poetry. Hence there
would have been no 'KItten POems'. I subscribe to 4-5 poetry
magazines but I read them in an hour when they arrive and dont
ponder over them. If Fred and William stopped their pressure
I would be able to say good riddance to poetry. I spent thirty
years on it producing six books and three pamphlets and now
realise it was all pretty much a waste of time. But given my
physical and mental illnesses how else was I to pass my time
on this planet. I had a lot of fun out of it. AS Robert LOwell
said 'all the veins of silver give out'. Very few people can
keep on writing and I have seen so many elderly poets churn
out garbage. It is wise to know when to call it quits.
I would leave here if FRed and William werent around.
