Research Studentship in OR
A research studentship for a UK student is available from EPSRC's
Doctral Training Account funding, for an MPhil/PhD degree in Operational
Research at the Faculty of Mathematical Studies, University of
Southampton.
The studentship is for £10,000 per annum (£9,000 maintenance, plus
£1,000 for teaching assistance). Tuition fees are paid, a new PC is
provided, and support is available for travel and conference attendance.
The main areas of expertise of the Operational Research group are listed
below, and the MPhil/PhD research will probably be in one of these
areas.
Simulation: design of simulation experiments; sensitivity of outputs to
inputs.
Combinatorial optimization: scheduling is the main problem area but
there are also other possibilities; research is possible in complexity
classification, design of branch and bound algorithms, development of
heuristics especially local search heuristics.
Healthcare modelling: planning resources required to treat diseases;
capacity planning in hospitals.
Stochastic modelling: applications in finance, branching processes.
If you are interested in the studentship, please contact Professor Chris
Potts by 22 March 2002.
