In the course of my researches into early Cornish rock drill history one
figure who crops up is a Major Beaumont whose company, The Diamond Rock
Boring Co., undertook contracts at Carn Brea and Levant (amongst other
things). My area of interest is his involvement in matters Cornish,
however I keep seeing other odd references to his activities elsewhere, for
example the Halkyn Drainage Tunnel. I also have a vague idea that he was
involved in an early attempt to build a channel tunnel. I think he was also
invoved in the design of an early compressed air loco. If this was not
enough he was also an M.P. Can anybody expand on the story?
