CILIP'S CORPORATE PLAN APPROVED
Plan provides blueprint for "best possible professional body"
for Members' needs
CILIP Council members have given the green light to the Corporate Plan,
which sets out the Institute's plan of action to March 2005. With a vision
of an inclusive community of Members, reflecting the full range of depth and
diversity of the whole library and information domain, the Plan pledges that
CILIP will strive to become "the membership body of choice" for all in the
profession.
"CILIP must work to ensure that it is hospitable to both present and future
Members by recognizing library and information competency wherever it exists
- not necessarily in a traditional library environment - and by providing
routes to entry to the profession that reflect a wide diversity of career
paths and workplace environments," the Plan's Introduction states.
Key indicators of success for CILIP in the first three years of its
existence will focus on the critical areas of Membership, advocacy,
education, enterprise and infrastructure. An expanded membership, an
inclusive framework of qualifications, continued strength in CILIP's
income-generating activities, and the development of e-CILIP services are
among the goals that CILIP will seek to achieve.
"CILIP's Corporate Plan is a 'high' level document," says Chief Executive
Bob McKee. "It outlines what needs to be done, without going into detail."
Internal business plans relating to specific activities will provide the
detail, including costings, key performance indicators and measures of
success.
Council approval of the Plan follows a consultation exercise carried out
during the summer, and the wide range of views expressed by Members was
taken into account in the final draft. Progress against the Plan will now
be scrutinised through CILIP's Committees and Panels. "In setting its
objectives and developing its services CILIP will focus on outcomes," the
Plan pledges: "on adding value for Members and making a positive difference
for the library and information community; and on developing a culture of
learning and continuous improvement."
The full text of the Plan is available on CILIP's website at
