Hi Judi,
and welcome to the list! I'm amazed you get the public wandering into the
library - they should never get past reception. I thought after Dunblane
all schools were much more careful about all that! Here in Hertfordshire all
visitors are chanelled through reception. You certainly shouldn't have to
face the general public! I should raise it with your line-manager - it's
quite a serious matter to be exposed to risk at work.
