In mid April, our Library was told that online access to Lippincott
Williams
& Wilkins (LWW) titles via the publisher's web site is no longer
available
to academic institutions. If we want to have continual access, we have
to
subscribe through [log in to unmask] There is no way to renew our LWW site
licenses which were expired by the end of April..
I checked the LWW web site (http://www.lww.com/librarians.htm) for the
2002 site license rates, there is no indication that these rates do not
apply to
academic institutions. Neither is there any announcement about the new
arrangement. I just wonder if any libraries have received details on
this
change.
The Ovid's price is 2.5 to 6 times more. We have conveyed our objections
to
the Hong Kong LWW and Hong Kong Ovid office. As a reputable publisher,
LWW should provide a convincing explanation on this change of pricing
model
and a longer period is required for such a major transition.
