This is an opportunity to join an experienced research group (the
Biotechnology Policy Group) to work on two new and topical projects:
The first project, 30 months, will investigate how the precautionary
principle is being interpreted for GM crops and food in seven EU member
states, as well as at EU level. It will explore the links between
scientific findings, public controversy, expert advisors, and the various
interest groups who attempt to influence regulatory processes.
The second project, 24 months, will investigate international networks
affecting the transatlantic trade in GM products, to look at their
potential for raising or lowering environmental standards.
You will need a PhD or equivalent experience in an area related to
environmental politics, technology policy or international relations. You
will also need excellent communication skills for interacting with
research partners, our advisory panel, policy makers, expert advisors, and
other stakeholders. And you will need standard research skills such as
those involved in interviewing, data collection and analysis, report
writing and basic computer literacy.
In return, we can offer you a stimulating and friendly working
environment, the opportunity to be involved in other related research
projects, and the chance to have a say on biotechnology policy in the EU.
