Dear All,
If you are not aware of already, the Union List of Artist Names of the Getty may have some useful elements.
It contains more than 200.000 names, elementary biographical data and family relationships.
If not the names, the roles and the schema may be interesting.

I have sent an enquiry on this issue to the American Anthropological Association whose members deal a lot with kinship systems and genealogies, but they don't know of any project like this. Another possibility is the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints, as they have an extensive programme of ancestor research. You should also try the Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (deals with surnames that have geographic origins I presume), and the Tasmanian Archives office
> www.archives.tas.gov.au/sitemap.htm which has thesauri of documents /records that relate to genealogical research.
