This problem is already looked into in late 70s.
As the tank walls are moved backwards and forwards by the acceleration, the
fluid near the walls
will experience this accelration, where as the centre of the tank the fluid
will oscillate back and forth with the natural period of the sloshing
fluid. So there are two
components of the pressure on the wall.
Housner gives a simple oscillator model for each of these components.
Refer Chapter 4 - Housner Strong Ground Motion

Subject: effect of acceleration on hydrostatic pressure

Dear all.

I am looking for articles or documentations on how to simulate
the hydrostatic pressure inside a closed reservoir (full of oil), subject
to acceleration.

at time 0 sec the tank is at rest, simple (ro*g*h) create the load pressure
on the wall. but when the tank is under an accelaration horizontal and
transversal, what is the function to describe the pressure load on the
wall.

best regards

andré
