We have been trying to measure suction in laboratory of kaolin samples of
20cm dia x 20cm height. Samples are normally consolidated one dimensionally
to 60 kPa. When the load is removed, about 50 kPa suction was measured.
However, this suction decreased rapidly, and after two hours this value
comes down to about 30 kPa.
We are sure that no water was supplied during the above period. Also de-
aired slurry was used for consolidation.
Could anybody suggest reasons for decrease in suction?
