Nottingham, organised by the East Midlands Geotechnical Group :

Subject : "Geotechnical aspects of the UK's largest D&B Motorway Contract
to Date:The M6 Toll"

Speakers : Stewart Jarvis of Ove Arup, Peter Gilbert of Atkins and Graeme
Green of CAMBBA
Abstract :
The lecture will cover all the ground engineering aspects of this massive
fast track toll motorway contract. Topics covered will include an
historical overview, the earthworks strategy, the design strategy and some
of the detailed design considerations. The contact brings together some of
the largest players in the industry today and the 'gelling of the team' has
been an important aspect in the successes to date.
Speakers' Biography :
Stewart Jarvis is an Associate Director of ARUP. He has over 22 years of
experience in the design and project management of civil engineering
projects. He is a specialist in the geo-environmental field, which includes
site investigation, mining, land reclamation, risk assessment,
contamination and environmental issues, earthworks, and foundation design
for highways and structures. He is currently Geotechnics Co-ordinator for
the M6 Toll Project.
Peter Gilbert is Head of Atkins Geotechnical Division in Birmingham and
Glasgow offices, leading a team of 37 staff in total. He has over 15 years
of experience in the design and project management of geotechnical
projects. Peter is a specialist in geotechnical engineering for highways
and railways, both in terms of new build schemes and maintenance. His role
on the M6 Toll Project was as assistant Geotechnics Co-ordinator for the
project, and was responsible for ensuring delivery of the Atkins
geotechnical input.
Graeme Green is a chartered civil engineer who has been seconded from
Carillion to CAMBBA (M6 Toll Consortium). He is a site based Design Manager
on this £500M (design & build) privately financed infrastructure project
and is responsible for managing multi-disciplinary design teams (technical
& commercial) and managing the interfaces design has between procurement,
the client and the construction teams.
