Institute of Health Studies
PhD Studentships in Consumer Health Informatics
Clinical graduates and graduates in social sciences,
computing science, economics, statistics, mathematics,
biological sciences, education, and media studies disciplines,
who have a strong interest in consumer health informatics are invited
to apply for a three year PhD Studentship with the Institute
of Health Studies supervised by Prof. Ray Jones and colleagues.
Applicants should hold, or expect to hold, at least an
upper-second class honours degree in a relevant discipline.
Two studentships (tax-free stipend of £10,000 per year
plus course fees) are available, starting in Sept 2002 or later.
The Institute is developing research links with the new
Peninsula Medical School, local NHS organisations and
other departments. Enquiries in any of the following areas are welcome:
* Patient access to their medical records
* Information needs of patients with cancer
* Computer support of clients, including the use of computer-based
outcome measures, in multiple sclerosis
* Information needs of patients in primary care
* Information/communication for brain injured people and their
families
* Health and patient education using interactive TV
* Meeting the information needs of patients in order to maximise
the effectiveness of acute pain management
* ICT support for patients and professionals in diabetes
