Thanks for the information Wolfgang. I would though echo Elizabeth's good
sense about not posting attachments to list-servs. Accordingly I have pasted
below the main body of your announcement for those who might already have
deleted your initial post.

UNIVERSITY OF SALZBURG
DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH AND AMERICAN STUDIES
CONFERENCE:
THE AUTHOR AS READER: TEXTUAL VISIONS AND REVISIONS
To be held at the
Bildungshaus St Virgil, Salzburg,
23-26 October 2003
Organised for the Department
by
Sabine Coelsch-Foisner and Wolfgang Görtschacher
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Department of English and American Studies at Salzburg invites papers
dealing with anglophone authorial revisions and rewriting of texts, thus
with various versions of the same literary work be it drama, fiction, or
poetry by the same author.
The variety of papers will find its common focus in notions and theories of
authorship and of the literary work. When is a work completed? Can it ever
be? At the same time questions of metatextuality and literary evaluation
will arise; the author's later viz. last version may not automatically be
the generally accepted one. Participants are thus also encouraged to deal
with questions like: which version is preferable from what points of view?
These and related questions will inform the individual case studies.
At this conference, papers may not exceed 30 minutes delivery time and will
be followed by 15 minutes of discussion. Two papers will be given in one
session of 90 minutes in all. The language of papers and discussions is
English.
The cost of the conference including the conference fee and three days' full
board and lodging is around Euro 270 per person. Occasionally it has proved
possible to offer limited assistance to some participants who could not
obtain funding from their own institutions, but those are certainly the
primary sources to be approached.
The conferences are held in the Bildungshaus St Virgil, an education centre
situated at the foot of the hills just outside the city and within easy
reach of the historic parts of Salzburg. Participants are lodged at the
Centre and take their meals there, so that discussions can continue
informally between and after sessions.
We intend to publish a volume of papers from the conference. Before
Christmas of 2003 papers may be submitted in hard-copy and on disk (MS DOS
Windows, IBM or IBM-compatible) or as an e-mail attachment.
If you are interested in this conference and wish to offer a paper or take
part as a general participant - something which is always welcome, of course
- please contact by the end of February, 2003 (adding an abstract briefly
describing your project):
