Subject: Out of Context
out of context
is a one day event that examines the role of writers working in live
performance, in the wider community.
out of the conventional theatre spaces and into the neighbourhoods writers
are discovering increasing opportunities to work in new ways across a
spectrum of contexts: healthcare, education, regeneration, prisons &
probation; with refugees and asylum seekers.
Is this just the governmentıs agenda for social change or can writers find
ways to develop their art? And if so, what skills and expertise do they need
to acquire? What models of existing diverse practice can they draw on?
Out of context will provide an opportunity for writers to:
Meet the individuals companies and organisations already working in these
areas
Network, debate, explore different working processes, share experience,
satisfy curiosity
Learn how to inspire and focus the imagination of others, and tell their
stories
Spark future collaborations with communities of young and old, black, Asian
or from other ethnic backgrounds, the socially excluded and those working in
social inclusion contexts.
There will be:
A keynote speech which will consider the current relationships of writing to
the wider community.
A programme of workshops aimed at introducing writers to the ancillary
skills that are central to working in diverse contexts
A marketplace of individuals and organisations to enable a more informal and
direct setting for the sharing of ideas and information
Individual surgeries to give writers the opportunity for one to one advice
and guidance
A concluding debate
Full details of participating artists will be set on registration.
The event is co-ordinated by writernet and Pursued by a Bear in association
with Stratford Circus, the Theatre Royal Stratford East and the Caird
Company.
Out of Context will be held at Stratford Circus on
Wednesday 12th June
And run from 1pm 7pm.
Cost: only £5
