We don't support bb for summative assessment but it has been done. A
lecturer in the Art dept has done 3 now and there are another 2 scheduled,
one for today and one tomorrow. They have run successfully so far, but
there are always 1 or 2 browsers that freeze/students that click Back or
whatever. Their attempts have to be reset and they do it all over again. As
they have been warned about it there haven't been any complaints so far.
There are about 100 students so they go in 2 groups into our 100-seater
room and sit on alternate machines. There are 2-3 invigilators. As I'm not
trained as one I can't be in the room, but I appear at the start 'just
passing' to check they're ok and stay by the phone in case something goes
wrong. The lecturer is very very pleased with the way they have worked.
Shame it's not more secure etc. then we could use it properly. I suppose
this fancy Building Blocks programme will sort that out (for a price!) but
at the moment we are looking at QMP and others to provide a proper tool for
summative assessment.
