There is a large bust of Menon on the first floor of Camden Town Hall,
outside the Council Chamber. Not exactly visible to many. So I wrote to the
Council Leader suggesting it should be moved to Russell Square. This was
turned down. I pushed a bit more. Here is the final response. Can anyone
suggest any sites we could propose?
Dear Ms Sherwood
In response to your recent enquiry, I contacted Mike Jones, Client Services
Manager for his comments on whether Krishna Menon can be moved to a more
public place at any time.
Mike has advised me that unfortunately there is nowhere that it be
relocated. In particular, neither of the entrances to the Town Hall or Town
Hall Extension is suitable, as there is insufficient room to place it
without causing potential problems around both access and means of escape.
The entrance to the Crowndale Centre is earmarked for the Community Access
Point and does not have any spare space. The public areas of Bidborough
House and 79, Camden Road is also too small.
I am sorry that this is the case, however I am informed that The Indian High
Commissioner of the time requested that the bust be placed on the Civic
Floor of the Town Hall.
Yours sincerely
Councillor Jane Roberts
Leader of the Council
