Subject: Black History Month - Divercity project

Hello, Here are the details about what the Cuming Museum is doing for Black
History Month 2002:

Divercity Project
During July a group of local adults worked on designing posters using World
History objects from the Cuming museum as their inspiration. The adults
designed London Underground posters using the museum's objects as the focus
and they learnt how to use PhotoShop software.

There will be a really fantastic exhibition of the finished posters and the
objects at the Cuming museum in October and there will also be a display at
Bermondsey tube station. The project has been done for Black History Month
and is a real celebration of cultural diversity through the museum objects
and the poster designs. This has been a partnership project with funding
form the Heritage Lottery as well as support from London Underground,
Southwark College and Peckham Education Action Zone.

The exhibition at the Cuming Museum opens on the 1st of October and will
include the finished posters alongside the World History objects the
participants interpreted in their poster designs. There will be a personal
commentary from each designer on the ideas behind their design. The
exhibition at the Cuming will run from the first week in October until 21st
December.

There is going to be a small musical event during an evening rush hour at
Bermondsey station to launch the poster display there (it will be located at
the top of the escalators). This will happen during the first week of
October, but an exact date is still to be confirmed. The posters will go up
at Bermondsey Underground station for the first of October and will be on
display for a week or two there.
