Call for Papers, Panel, Recovering Nineteenth-Century Women Writers on
the Internet, Society for the Study of American Women Writers
September 24-27, 2003 Fort Worth, Texas
The Internet has inspired several great collections of women’s work on
line. This session will explore these efforts to recover and
disseminate women’s writing via digital technologies and the effect on
the canon, research, and pedagogy. Questions addressed might include,
what technologies are you using to preserve the materials? What sources
of funding are available for scholars working on women writers and
digital projects? How you are using these materials in your research
and teaching? What kinds of technical and administrative problems have
you encountered as you work to digitize women’s writing? How are the
works of women writers faring compared to other groups in terms of
garnering funding and support? Has the Internet facilitated or hindered
the broader dissemination of primary materials or your research? Has
your digital archival work helped or hindered your career development?
Who do you envision as the audience for materials on the Internet?
