Lord Byron and Romantic Politics
We invite proposals or papers dealing with Lord Byron and British politics
of the Romantic era, to be delivered at the meeting of the Byron Society of
America at the 2002 MLA convention in New York City. We welcome papers
addressing any aspect of the political commitments, ideologies, and/or
interventions of Byron's writings, including poetry, prose, letters, and
speeches. Subjects could include Byron's career as a Whig, his
revolutionary efforts, his depictions of colonialism and empire, the gender
politics of his writings, the politics of his attacks upon and allegiances
with other writers, his political satires, romantic nationalism (Irish,
Greek, Scottish, Jewish, etc.) in his works, his anti-war writings, his
newspaper squib-writing, or politically-motivated reactions to his works in
periodical reviews.
Please send one-page abstracts or papers no later than 15 MARCH to Prof.
