Trevor, due to ore chemistry, iron ore roasting in Roman Britain appears
to be confined to the Weald and the Jurassic Ridge. As regards the
Weald, have a look at the seminal Cleere, H.F. and Crossley, D. (^21995)
The iron industry of the Weald. Cardiff: Merton Priory Press. For the
East Midlands, there is Schrüfer-Kolb, I.E. (forthcoming) Roman iron
production in the East Midlands, England. Oxford: Archaeopress. Until
then, the book is available from the University of Leicester Library.
