Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC)
Statisticians/Statistical Research Assistant
Bloomsbury, Central London
ICNARC was set up in 1994, as an independent charity (registered: 1039417)
to foster improvements in the organisation and practice of intensive care in
the UK. Following the appointment of a Senior Statistician, ICNARC wishes
to expand its activities in both methodological and evaluative research.
The main areas of work in the Centre are: validation and optimisation of
risk adjustment models; observational studies of organisational and other
factors affecting survival in critical care; consultancy work and randomised
controlled trials. We are currently looking to recruit three people to join
the team and play an important role in this expansion.
Statistician Full time Salary £22,000 - £28,000
Statistician Fixed term (18 months) Salary £22,000 - £28,000
Statistical Research Assistant Full time Salary c.£18,000
Duties include:
· participation in the design, analysis and writing up of research projects
coordinated by the Centre;
· the provision of guidance on data management and statistics for ICNARC
staff and for critical care units working with ICNARC;
· input into the maintenance and development of database, data processing,
data analysis and report generating systems and their associated
documentation;
· the preparation and production of publications and reports for ICNARC;
· the preparation of graphical display of data for slides and posters;
· the presentation of audit and research results on behalf of ICNARC;
· searching scientific literature databases (manual and computerised);
· reviewing scientific literature;
· communicating with intensive care units.
Applications are invited from individuals who:
· have experience in data management and data analysis;
· preferably have an MSc in Medical Statistics (Statistician posts -
applicants from final year students will be considered) or a BSc in
Mathematics/Statistics (Statistical Research Assistant post – applicants
from final year students will be considered);
· are computer literate, with experience of word processing, database and
statistical software packages;
· have good interpersonal and communication skills;
· are able to plan, prioritise and problem solve;
· are able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team;
· can demonstrate close attention to detail;
· have respect for confidentiality.
