Apologies if this issue has arisen before.
At Nottingham, we do not normally issue degree certificates to reflect
a change of name subsequent to graduation eg if someone gets married,
changes their name by deed poll etc. The reasoning behind this is that
we want to do whatever we can to prevent fraud and to maintain the
integrity of our student records and if new names are introduced then
this becomes more difficult. We have made one exception to this rule
and that is for students who has changed sex since they graduated; the
reason for doing this is that not to do so would cause them a number of
problems in getting jobs amongst other things.
I would be grateful if you could answer the following questions:
1) Do you issue certificates to reflect a change of name?
2) If yes, how do you ensure that this is accurately reflected in your
student records?
3) If not, is there any other documentation that you will produce to
reflect a change of name, eg an official letter?
Thanks very much.
