<<...OLE_Obj...>> Business Information System approaches for Higher
Education
Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to announce the formal launch of BISinfoNet.ac.uk as a
resource for the UK Education Sector.
Supported by the HEFCE Fund for the Development of Good Management Practice
we are developing an on-line knowledge base for all those involved in
developing and implementing business information systems. The emphasis is
on support for business managers although we hope to offer plenty of
interest to technical managers as well.
Our website is now live at http://www.bisinfonet.ac.uk
Drawing on real experience of business processes and systems replacement in
UK universities we aim to offer practical support to practitioners in this
area. We have combined tried and tested industry models with hands-on
project experience to deliver empirical models tailored to Higher Education
needs. We also offer analysis of the cultural, financial and practical
issues of implementing best practice.
Our training modules include step by step guides, templates and worked
examples from other relevant projects. The training materials are backed up
by HE case studies and short reports and articles by practitioners at the
leading edge of HE business developments. We will also be offering
workshops and training events on key areas.
The first module, System Selection in HE, is available on-line now. Modules
on Negotiating an IT Contract and Reviewing Business Processes will be
available later this year.
There are still places available at our joint seminar with UCISA and UPA
entitled 'Selecting an HR System: Career saving messages from the front
line' in London on 20th June. Find out more about the seminar from the
BISinfoNet.ac.uk website or from
http://www.ucisa.ac.uk/events/2002/misg-hr-aims.htm.
We will be developing and improving our website over the coming months and
we welcome your feedback on the site and the training modules. We would
also like to hear from you if you have suggestions about what else you would
like to see or if you would like to contribute material.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who have been
involved in the project so far and we look forward to further, mutually
beneficial, collaboration.
Please forward this message to any colleagues who may be interested in these
resources or in the HR seminar.
Gill Ferrell
