Science and Public Affairs Forum
A fair trial? Ethics and the developing world
Wednesday 13 March, 6.30 pm (door open at 6.00 pm)
The Institute of Physics, 76 Portland Place, London
Do nations in the developed world have a moral obligation to support and
undertake medical research of benefit to the developing world?
Increased drug trials and development could promise a brighter future.
However first we must closely examine the ethical conflict of public health
and human rights. What happens when trials are over? Can we maintain
standards of care and access to medicines in developing countries? For
nations with little access to healthcare, are we simply offering false hope?
Dr Susan Bull, Assistant Director, Nuffield Council on Bioethics is joined
by Dr John Porter, Reader in International Health, London School of Hygiene
and Tropical Medicine and Dr Gill Samuels, Senior Director Science Policy
and Scientific Affairs, Europe, Pfizer Global Research & Development to
discuss ethics in the developing world. The event will be chaired by BBC
Science Correspondent Pallab Ghosh.
The event is free but places must be reserved in advance. Please e-mail

Sponsored by the MRC
