Keh?
(thou shalt have no other god than the OED)
The original meaning was cheque list, ie a listing of
cheques issued, hence the space between the words. A check
list can be a listing of anything but does not occur as
'checklist' in either my Macquarie or OED.
Those poor bloody accounting students of mine had a bad
enough time coming to terms with double entry as it was,
without such confusions. There are a number of texts in my
old uni library that have been suitably 'modified' by yours
truly.
"Check mark" is correct in

Its two different vowel sounds co and lour and is thus spelt
accordingly. ;-)

I'm thinking of writing to our Minister of Education and
suggesting that literacy in Oz would be greatly improved if
they legislated that all books sold in Oz use Oz standard
english, ie all the american imports would have to run
special Oz editions so the oz kiddies dont get confused by
american spelling. And also, that all software in Oz comes
with the default set to the Oz dictionary and the american
one be removed completely. Are you listening Mr Gates?
