I am waiting for my SAturday morning papers to arrive
and some thoughts occur to me that I might as well share.
I have noted for some time that as poets get older they
seem to lose their phrase-making ability. In essence
their creativity with the language. This is what I
feel happened to me with the Cat/Kitten Poems.
Somewhere along the line I started writing chopped-up
prose sustained only by a lyric impulse whereas before
I was genuinely creative with language. (I am now
in my 60th year).Thirty years ago I used to love
the way I could create phrases out of nothing but
I havent done that in years.
And Marty the cat is back from his nights wanderings
and wants his breakfast. He is sitting beside me waiting.
