Dear All,
I am currently doing some preliminary research on the interaction
between eighteenth-century monasticism and 'science'. I would be very
appreciative if anyone could recommend a few good secondary sources (or
even primary sources) on this area. Because of the apparent lack of
information on this subject, my study broadly defines 'science' as
natural history, medicine natural philosophy. The general time frame
under discussion is 1720-1800. Although I am interested in the
Benedictines, I would not mind hearing about sources that address other
orders that practised in Europe. Sources written in English, French
and German are acceptable.
Yours Sincerely,
Matthew.
