Ian and others:
Yesterday when I first learned about the new service and used it results
look familiar.
So, after a little more testing I decided that the main database, what BBCi
is querying, is actually
a "chunk" of the Google database with the recommended site information from
the BBC merged into the result list.
An article in today's Guardian, confirms.
http://media.guardian.co.uk/newmedia/story/0,7496,709251,00.html
"The search engine, developed in-house by the BBC in conjunction with
Google, will deliver several layers in results and is designed to be
particularly useful for those new to the web."
"It will use an optimised version of Google, screened for unsavoury sites,
while also listing results from within the BBC.co.uk and BBC News sites."
I've already contacted Google to learn more and will report what I learn.
cheers,
gary
p.s. In other online news and reported on my weblog, the Financial Times
will become a fee-based service in the next few weeks. Limited material
will still be avaiable for free.
