CILIP's draft Corporate Plan - setting out its objectives - will be
circulated to all CILIP members at the end of July, together with a Services
Survey, seeking members' views on CILIP's activities.
Discussion about the Corporate Plan and the Services Survey has exposed some
deeper issues which require longer-term deliberation.
In each issue, the question is one of balance
- What will be the balance between CILIP as an inclusive ('liberal')
membership body and CILIP as an exclusive, regulatory professional body?
- What will be the balance between CILIP as a London-based organisation and
CILIP as a devolved organisation?
- What will be the balance between CILIP acting for the public good and
CILIP acting for the benefit of its members?
- What will be the balance between CILIP's bureaucracy and processes of
governance and CILIP's flexibility and rapidity of response?
- What will be the balance between subscription income and a more commercial
model of income generation?
- What will be the balance between CILIP's focus on content (ie activities)
and CILIP's focus on the conduit (ie structures and processes)?
You are encouraged to join in the dialogue on these deep-lying issues which
inform the work of our professional body. A commentary on these issues will
appear in a future issue of CILIP Update and there will be an opportunity to
feed in further views then.
This e-mail debate is aimed at the underlying issues in the Corporate Plan.
Direct responses on the detail of the Plan should be sent to the e-mail that
will be set up for that specific purpose; the address will be included in
the Corporate Plan document.
