Dear All,
This is just a query if anyone knows of a GIS system developed to trace and
return environmental variables from VECTOR river networks. I've been
developing such a tool in ArcView here at CEH which returns such
information as distance to source/mouth, altitude of site/source, stream
order, geology at site, catchment statistics such area, catchment geology,
1990 landcover, EA boundaries etc etc... It makes use of height data as
points along the river arcs, flow direction grids to compute catchment area
and polygons for geology, so it's one arcview project that quieries various
datasets and automates the process of retrieving spatial variables, but
specifically for vector river networks.
I am now in the process of writing a report/possible paper and I have been
searching the net (God bless Google) for papers about such tools/subject.
All I have found is a wealth of information about RASTER networks and the
nearest thing to what I have produced is something similar on the US
National Hydrography Website (http://nhd.usgs.gov/app_demo.html).
Has anyone Know/used/created anything similar?
I look forward to any replies, because often with the internet you can't
see the wood for the trees!
