'Most people who use their latin &c. on a daily basis are unlikely to need records management.'
I'm sorry, but that just isn't true for those of us who are one man bands. In the past 48 hours my work has included
- answering a local history enquiry involving a Latin deed
- appraising correspondence files 1970-1995
- briefing an administrator on the Freedom of Information Act
- producing a title deed of 1985 for a property sale
- boxing a set of glass negatives
The course gave me mediaeval Latin, palaeography, land law (the one thing I've needed everywhere) and a grounding in approaches to cataloguing and records management. For the rest - thank goodness for all those SoA courses I've attended over the years.
